Biomechanical specialist with a focus on head injuries at Mips

Mips is an ingredient brand company, founded in science and with strong focus on continuous research and improved safety.
To strengthen our role as a leader in helmet safety Mips is expanding our science team with a biomechanical specialist.
Mips is looking for a person that can strengthen the scientific foundation and take responsibility for the safety requirements in one of three helmet categories within the company by internal and external collaboration.
In this role, you will lead the development of biomechanical research for one of the helmet categories.
The position is based at our headquarters in the Greater Stockholm area.

The Role

You will support Mips long-term ambition to be the leader in helmet safety by driving research projects with a focus on biomechanics and protective systems for head injuries and implement the results into the organisation.
You will work as an expert in this field and be responsible for the research within a helmet category.
You will lead research projects internally as well as collaborate with external partners such as universities and other similar actors.
You will belong to a group of researchers in biomechanics who focus on how the head is injured in different accident scenarios and test methods for evaluating helmets.
At Mips, you work together with a team of scientists, engineers and product developers to develop new and innovative solutions that help our customers to protect them against head injuries.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the biomechanical research within a specific helmet category at Mips with focus on safety performance.
  • Translate biomechanical research and real world accident analyses into clear functional requirements, design of test methods and guidelines for product development.
  • Responsible for both internal and external research and development projects that involve simulations, experimental testing, and analysis of the literature for the specific category.
  • Collaborate closely with the product development team to ensure research insights are integrated into product design.
  • Support the sales and marketing organization with category specific expertise.
  • Communicate findings effectively to technical and non technical stakeholders.
  • Monitor and actively contribute to standardization groups within head protection, primarily in the EU and US.

Capabilities and Skills

You have a research oriented profile with the ability to investigate complex topics, synthesize findings, and translate insights into practical recommendations on helmet test requirements.
You have experience of conducting your own research, writing scientific publications and participating in international research communities.
We are looking for you with good knowledge and experience of working with biomechanics.
You demonstrate ability to independently plan, execute, and deliver projects while collaborating with key stakeholders.
Knowledge of helmets and applied statistics is also meritorious.
In addition, it is an advantage if you have practical experimental experience and have worked with finite element simulations.

To succeed in this role, you either have a PhD in a relevant field such as mechanics or biomechanics or have a M.Sc.
with five years or more work experience with research-like tasks.
You see yourself as self-motivated, meticulous and passionate about finding new solutions in injury prevention.
You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
Some travel may occur.
