Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

We are seeking a Staff Scientist (Research Consultant) to join the Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform.
You will provide expert technical support for our users and assist in the planning and performance of mouse experiments using state-of-the-art equipment and surgery facilities in an international environment.
You will also assist in the refinement and development of experimental setups for metabolic phenotyping.
The start date is August 1, 2024, or after agreement.

About us
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to pioneer groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health.
We wish to lead collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, transforming the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health, and accelerating its translation into prevention and treatment strategies.
We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

The Center has around 260 employees who work in an international, highly collaborative research environment across a range of biomedical disciplines.
You may read more about us here: www.cbmr.ku.dk.

The Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform (RMPP) assists the researchers at CBMR by offering specialized technical assistance and support and access to equipment for metabolic phenotyping, including metabolic cages and digital ventilated cages.
We constantly work towards expanding our catalogue of services, and to familiarize ourselves with the newest technological developments in our field.
You may read more about the equipment and services we offer here.
Our team currently consists of three animal technicians, two staff scientists and one platform manager.

Your tasks
Your tasks will be varied, and depend on the needs of our users, and your expertise/previous experience.
Tasks will include:

  • Assist our users in the design of animal experiments
  • Continuously refine and develop existing protocols to produce more consistent results and improve animal welfare
  • Identify and introduce new models and techniques to our facility
  • Disseminate findings and expert knowledge to our users in seminars
You will work with the rest of the RMPP team, and with researchers, technicians, and students from CBMR and other departments at the University of Copenhagen, and with the animal caretakers from the Department of Experimental Medicine.
Your time will be split between the office work in the Maersk Tower and laboratory work in the Animal Facility.

  • You are fluent in written and spoken English
  • You are eager to learn and interested in using advanced models to phenotype mice
You have an advantage if you fulfil one or more of the following additional criteria:

  • You have previously worked with animal models for metabolic disorders
  • You have experience in intracerebroventricular cannula insertions or other CNS surgery procedures
  • You have a PhD in biology, veterinary medicine, biomedicine, or a related field
