Postdoc in `Phosphoproteomics'

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2 year position, who will join the group of Jesper Velgaard Olsen to commence 1 August 2024.

The postdoc project is part of the international “OVA-PDM” consortium working on ‘Personalising the clinical decision making in ovarian cancer through patient-derived in vitro models’, which is a funded through a joint ERA-PerMed "PREVENTION IN PERSONALISED MEDICINE” grant.

Our research
The Olsen Group address unsolved questions in cell signalling.
The group aims to characterize how signalling networks regulate cellular responses differentially when mediated by phosphorylation and other modifications.

The major scientific focus area for the Olsen Group is quantitative, high-resolution mass spectrometry-based proteomics with specific emphasis on mass spectrometric technology developments and biological applications.
In the OVA-PDM consortium, we investigate the molecular mechanisms in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC), which remains a difficult-to-treat and lethal disease, mainly due to the lack of successful strategies for preventing tumor relapse.
We aim to identify specific biomarkers inferred from two complementary platforms of patient-derived models: organotypic 3D cultures recapitulating the microenvironment of HGSOC peritoneal lesions and organoids retaining the heterogeneity and differentiation potential of cancer cells.
We are testing the in vitro response to PARP inhibitors by quantitative phosphoproteomics.
Candidate biomarkers will be validated in fully annotated retrospective cohorts of HGSOC patients.
By integrating interdisciplinary and novel experimental approaches, this project will advance personalization strategies for the use of PARPi in HGSOC, thus helping to prevent its recurrence.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in analytical chemistry, biomedicine, molecular biology, biochemistry or related fields.
  • You are highly experienced in quantitative phosphoproteomics.
  • You are highly experienced in mammalian tissue culture, and sample preparation workflows for (phospho)proteomics.
  • You have extensive experience in quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics including latest generation of mass spectrometric instrumentation, e.g.
    Orbitrap Astral.
  • You have an active interest in cancer cell signalling and kinase pathways and networks.
  • You are proficient in proteomics data analysis tools and software relevant to mass spectrometry data with the ability to interpret complex mass spectrometry data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • You hold a proven track record of high-impact research with contributions to understanding cell signaling in health and disease.
  • You have excellent communication skills (English; oral and written) for presenting research findings, teaching, and grant writing.
  • You have the ability to work with and contribute to highly collaborative projects within and outside the academic institution.
  • You are committed to teach, mentor and supervise students and junior researchers.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills:

  • You have experience in phosphoproteomics sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis and computational proteomics and bioinformatics including cell-signaling pathway reconstitution from quantitative phosphoproteomics data.
  • You have experience with data-independent acquisition (DIA) and Orbitrap mass spectrometers.
  • You have experience from international and interdisciplinary research collaborations, f.ex.
    EU research networks.
  • Knowledge of ovarian cancer cell models and PARP inhibitors is an advantage.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years.
The starting date is 1 August 2024.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation.
Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,500 DKK/approx.
5,000 EUR (April 2024 level).
Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.
The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
