CONSULTANCY PROJECT OFFICER, BASED IN AMMAN, JORDAN

The right candidate has solid project officer- and research skills and is highly interested in learning how to work with state actors with a human rights mandate.

The project officer will be working directly with the project manager and partnership adviser based in Amman, Jordan and with a team based in Copenhagen and in the region.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) is an independent state-funded institution.
Our mandate is to promote and protect human rights and equal treatment in Denmark and abroad.
We co-operate with state actors on the respect, protection, and fulfilment of human rights by providing substantive, organisational and processual advice to these actors.

As a Project Officer you will support the implementation of the Danish Institute for Human Rights’ engagement in Jordan and your work is funded by the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP).

MAIN TASKS As a project officer, the consultant shall:

  • Actively learn and apply the Institute’s concepts and methods related to human rights and ensure that they are applied through the project.
  • Provide analyses of human rights and the country context on a regular basis.
  • Contribute to the implementation of activities and to the development of ideas.
  • Follow up on partnerships within your area(s) of expertise in coordination with the project manager / partnership advisors in the country.
  • Support budget planning for activities.
  • Support annual narrative and financial reporting to the donor and final project reporting.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of the project including harvesting outcomes in line with the Outcome Harvesting approach.
  • Support with logistical arrangements for activities.
A very strong requirement of the position is that you are very good in working collaboratively to achieve common goals.

YOUR PROFILE
  • Knowledge of human rights in the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Structured persons with excellent organisational skills.
  • Team player who can work with a high degree of autonomy.
    It is essential that you have the skills to work collaboratively and constructively.
  • Experience with project work.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
    You plan your work and support the work of the advisers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferably a Master’s degree in human rights.
    Master’s degree in political science, international law, sociology or a related field is accepted.
  • As a minimum, 3 years of work experience as a project officer or project assistant.
  • Research experience in the context of Jordan.
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of human rights is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of the contexts of Jordan.
  • Knbowledge of donor funded international development and/or human rights capacity building projects is a strong advantage.
  • Languages: Arabic and English proficiency are mandatory for this position.
  • Professional and active approach to partners.
CONDITIONS OF CONSULTANCY As the duty station is Amman, Jordan and only applicants with permits to work and reside in the country will be considered.

Please note this is a time-restricted position running from June 2024 until June 2025.
